I wrote a little step sequencer for my jailbreaked iPod touch. (inspired by the awesome Monome 40h Controller) The sounds are quite crappy (also my chair sqeakks likke hell!!!), but you could do better sounds in SuperCollider or even trigger a Software/Hardware Synth/Samplers via MIDI. I used SuperCollider as a programming language ( http://supercollider.sourceforge.net ) and the aka.iPhone Application ( http://www.iamas.ac.jp/~aka/iphone/ ). Sometimes OSC messages get dropped, so it isn't 100% perfect. If someone needs the SuperCollider code, then please leave a comment. LFOs are great. Modulation is the heart of many good sounds, but a single LFO can get boring. Up, Down, Up, Down. So why not mix 2 of them together? Here's an example of a slightly more complex pattern made by summing 2 midi synchronized LFOs at the Linear VCA. The patch is extremely basic, a simple 2 OSC saw fed to a 24 DB lowpass filter. the output of the combined LFOs is brought into the secondary VC input on the LPF creating a syncopated pattern.

The Akai MPK49 controller keyboard makes things easy -- as some would say, a little too easy. This is a project I did for my Motion Design 2 class. The concept behind this was to magnify the culture and kinship of owning a Moog Synthesizer. Since the 70's, musicians have been building and customizing their own Moogs. So I wanted to reflect that sort of attachment that owners have with them, and in the process, bring the history and culture of owning a Moog into the new millenium as well.

This is an example of an effective technique for using the continuous data from the sensors on the Snyderphonics Manta. While it's possible to get useful data from the sensors when conceiving of them as a sort of psuedo-pressure sensor, they are actually sensing the total surface area covered by the finger. The technique demonstrated here is what we have found to be the most effective way to achieve a nice range of control over the sensors. Placing your finger on the sensor with the flat part of the fingertip covering as much surface area as possible, and then rolling the finger up until only the tip is touching the top of the hexagon will produce a smooth decrease in sensor values. Conversely, starting with the finger pointing straight down, and the fingernail just above the top of the sensor, then rolling the finger down to cover more surface area, will produce a smooth increase in sensor values.
